Cape Coast Castle Museum

The Cape Coast Castle Museum occupies a former coastal fortress dating from the 16th century and displays archaeological finds and cultural objects from different periods. The exhibitions span multiple rooms and underground chambers that document various aspects of local history.

The building was established in the 16th century as a trading post and later became central to the trans-Atlantic slave trade. The museum itself was founded in 1974 and uses portions of the original fortress to present its collections.

The museum displays traditional Ghanaian items such as ceremonial drums and ancient pottery that visitors can observe closely. These objects reflect the everyday and ceremonial practices of the people who lived here.
