Dendra, Bronze Age archaeological site near Manesis village, Greece.

Dendra is a Bronze Age burial site in the Nafplio Municipality, on the northeastern Peloponnese. The site holds a tholos tomb, three burial mounds, and sixteen chamber tombs dating to the Mycenaean period.

In the 1920s, a Swedish archaeological team uncovered the tombs and found that several had remained untouched since ancient times. The finds became central to understanding how Mycenaean society was organized and who held power within it.

The name refers to an ancient burial ground where people honored their dead over many generations. The tombs show how much family bonds and social rank mattered in this early civilization.

The site lies a few kilometers east of Argos and is best explored on foot. Wear sturdy shoes, carry water, and bring sun protection because shade is scarce across most of the area.

Among the human remains found at the site were also horses buried alongside their owners inside the tombs. This shows that certain animals held a place in the burial customs of the wealthiest members of Mycenaean society.
