The park extends across 122,250 acres of land, featuring deep gorges, dense forests, and mountain peaks reaching heights of 2,497 meters.
The establishment of Vikos-Aoos National Park in 1973 marked a significant step in preserving Greece's natural heritage and protecting its diverse ecosystems.
Local herbalists, known as Vikoyiatri, collected medicinal plants from the gorge until the early 20th century to treat various ailments.
The park offers numerous hiking trails connecting traditional stone-built villages, while the Voidomatis River provides opportunities for rafting and swimming.
The Vikos Gorge holds a Guinness World Record for having the smallest opening-to-depth ratio, with walls rising to 1,200 meters.
