War Museum

The War Museum in Athens occupies a modern building with four exhibition levels displaying weapons, uniforms, medals, and historical documents from Greek military conflicts. The collection spans from the early Bronze Age to the present day, offering a comprehensive view of Greece's military history.

The Greek Government founded the museum in 1964 and established its foundation in 1969 before the official opening on July 18, 1975. This project marked an important step in documenting and preserving Greece's military heritage in a dedicated institution.

The museum displays artifacts and documents that help visitors understand how Greek military forces developed over millennia. You can see here how weapons, uniforms, and tactics changed throughout the ages.

The museum is open Monday through Saturday, with hours varying by season. Plan enough time to explore all four exhibition levels and take in the extensive collections at a comfortable pace.

The institution operates branches in seven additional Greek cities, extending military history education across the country. Among these locations is the residence museum of General Napoleon Zervas, offering personal insight into the life of a significant military leader.
