Mosynopolis, Archaeological site near Komotini, Greece.

The remnants of Mosynopolis include temple structures from the 11th to 13th centuries, sections of city walls, and early-Christian tombs near Miskos village.

Originally named Maximianopolis in Rhodope province, the city served as a military base for Emperor Basil II during conflicts with Bulgarians until its destruction.

The archaeological findings from Mosynopolis, now preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Komotini, demonstrate the architectural evolution of ancient Greek settlements.

Located 7 kilometers west of Komotini, the site contains visible fortress structures and a central plan church accessible through local transportation networks.

The city experienced multiple name changes throughout its existence, including Paxoula, Maximianoupolis, Porsula, Corsulae, Impara, and Pyrsoalis before becoming Mosynopolis.
