Constructed in 1585 during Ottoman rule, the mosque was established by Ekmekçizade Ahmed Pasha, who served as chief finance minister under Sultans Ahmed I and Osman II.
The mosque maintains its role as a central religious institution for the Muslim community in Komotini, representing the enduring Islamic presence in this Greek region.
Located in central Komotini near the Clock Tower and the Muftiate of Rhodope Prefecture, the mosque underwent renovations between 2007 and 2008.
The building contains the only surviving Iznik tiles from the 1580s in Greece, representing the highest quality of Ottoman ceramic craftsmanship.
