Aquaworld Aquarium is a marine and reptile center in Hersonissos featuring several connected rooms with specialized habitats. Visitors observe Mediterranean fish species alongside rescued reptiles in dedicated viewing areas.
The facility was founded in 1995 and was the first aquarium on Crete. Since then it has developed as an educational center for marine conservation.
The facility teaches environmental care through hands-on encounters with animals, giving visitors direct experience with marine habitats and rescue efforts. The focus is on understanding how people can help injured sea creatures.
The visit works best on weekdays when there are fewer crowds. Plan enough time to explore all the rooms without rushing.
The facility specifically takes in former pet reptiles that owners could no longer care for and provides them a permanent home. This rescue work makes it more than just a display aquarium.
