Cranae

Cranae is a small island near Gytheio in southeastern Greece, rising to 124 meters at its highest point. A causeway links it to the mainland, allowing visitors to walk across from the town.

According to Greek mythology, Paris and Helen spent their first night here before traveling to Troy, an event that sparked the Trojan War. The island holds this legendary place in ancient storytelling and cultural memory.

The Tzannetakis Tower functions as the Historical and Cultural Museum of Mani, displaying regional artifacts and rotating exhibitions about local life. The tower draws visitors who want to understand how people in this area lived and worked over time.

You can reach the island easily by walking across the causeway from Gytheio. The short crossing takes just a few minutes and requires no tickets or special equipment.

A marble lighthouse stands on the island, guiding ships that enter the Laconian Gulf. This white structure is visible from the shore and has become part of the island's recognizable profile.
