Vermio Mountains, Mountain range in Imathia, Greece
The Vermio Mountains spread across west-central Macedonia with limestone rock formations and a highest point at Chamiti reaching 2065 meters. The range displays diverse woodland environments across its slopes and ridges.
Ancient writers including Herodotus and Strabo documented this mountain range in their texts as a known geographic feature. It served as an internal boundary during Hellenistic times in the Macedonian region.
The southeastern slopes feature vineyards growing Xinomavro grapes that produce wines protected by a regional designation from Naoussa. The wine tradition remains woven into how locals relate to this landscape.
Two ski resorts operate during winter months with multiple slopes at different difficulty levels for visitors. The facilities serve both local skiers and those coming from further away.
The Mountaineering Club of Naoussa has produced Olympic athletes while also maintaining an extensive network of hiking trails. These paths pass through different woodland zones across the range.
