Constructed by Venetians between 1595 and 1601, the structure underwent modifications during the Egyptian administration from 1831 to 1841, gaining its minaret appearance.
The structure represents a fusion of Venetian maritime engineering and Egyptian architectural influence, displaying the historical exchange between Mediterranean civilizations.
The lighthouse stands at the end of the old harbor pier across from Firkas fortress, offering views of the Cretan Sea and harbor.
The stone walls of this navigation structure incorporate materials identical to those used in the Venetian fortifications throughout Chania.
