Küçük Hasan Pasha Mosque, Ottoman mosque at Old Venetian Port, Chania, Greece.
Küçük Hasan Pasha Mosque is a former prayer house in Ottoman style at the eastern end of Chania's old harbor district. The building features a large central dome resting on four stone arches, with six smaller domes covering the spaces around it.
The building was completed in 1645 following the Ottoman conquest of Chania as a tribute to the first Ottoman governor. It served as an active prayer house until the population exchange of 1923 reshaped the region.
The building reflects how religious spaces evolved as communities changed over time in this Mediterranean port city. Visitors can sense the layered history through the repurposed interior, where sacred function gave way to public cultural use.
The building now serves as a municipal exhibition venue open to visitors and sits in a busy area of the old harbor. You can walk through the spacious rooms beneath the red domes and observe the architectural layout from different angles.
This is the only remaining example of Ottoman religious architecture in the old port area and now displays local artworks. The shift from prayer house to gallery space shows how heritage buildings find new purpose while keeping their historic essence intact.
