The Assumption Cathedral is a Catholic house of worship in Chania with a three-aisled brick basilica. The building displays neoclassical and Renaissance elements throughout its architecture.
History
The current building was inaugurated in 1879 and replaced an earlier single-aisled church from 1844 that had been damaged by earthquakes. This reconstruction took place while the city was modernizing its overall infrastructure.
