Agios Nikolaos in Chania, Eastern Orthodox church in Splantzia Square, Greece
The church of Agios Nikolaos features both a bell tower and a minaret, with cross-vaulted arcades along its northern side near Vourdouba Street.
Built in 1320 as a Dominican monastery, the structure was transformed into the Hiougkar Tzamisi mosque in 1645 during the Ottoman occupation of Crete.
The building represents multiple religious transitions, serving first as a Catholic cathedral, then as a mosque, and finally as a Greek Orthodox church.
Visitors can explore the church grounds daily and observe the detailed architectural elements from different periods, including the restored 36-meter minaret.
The minaret includes two balconies on its southwest corner, making it the only such structure of its kind in Greece.
