Church of Timios Stavros, Doliana, Eastern Orthodox church in Doliana, Greece.
The Church of Timios Stavros in Doliana is an Orthodox house of worship topped by thirteen domes, including a distinctive double-tiered central dome. Stone walls define the structure, with cross-shaped windows fitted with iron grilles.
The structure was built in the 17th century and sustained severe damage during World War II when German troops set it on fire. The building was later restored after this destruction.
The church takes its name from the True Cross and draws believers who gather here during important religious observances. It holds spiritual significance for the local community and serves as a place of prayer for visitors.
The church stands at 1140 meters elevation between the villages of Doliana and Krania in the Trikala region. Visitors should note that access is seasonal and warm clothing is recommended due to the mountain altitude.
The interior contains intricate carved reliefs featuring double-headed eagles, angelic figures, and scenes depicting Saint George. These detailed woodcarvings replace the traditional frescoes found in many other Orthodox churches.
