Koukounaries

Koukounaries is a sand beach on the southwestern coast of Skiathos, where light-colored sand meets thick pine forests that extend almost to the water. The shore is wide and gently sloping into the sea, making swimming comfortable for visitors of different abilities.

The beach was once a quiet fishing spot until tourism on the island grew in the 1970s and 1980s. Since then it developed into a popular swimming destination while keeping its natural surroundings.

The place draws visitors who want to experience the southern Mediterranean and enjoy time near the water. On warm days, you see people swimming, walking along the shore, or resting under umbrellas and trees.

Regular bus service connects the beach to Skiathos Town, with extra trips during warmer months. On site, you can rent sun loungers and umbrellas, and find small food stands offering drinks and light meals.

Next to the beach lies a protected natural area with rare plants and migratory birds that stop here during their journeys. This makes the location more than just a swimming spot – it is also a window into local wildlife.
