Holy Monastery of Venerable Father David, Orthodox monastery in Drimona, Greece
The Holy Monastery of Venerable Father David is a monastic complex near the village of Drimona on the island of Euboea, built in traditional stone with several chapels gathered around a central courtyard. The church sits at the heart of the compound, surrounded by monks' cells and smaller attached buildings.
The monastery was founded around 1540 and was badly damaged during Ottoman rule in 1824. Rebuilding took several decades, and most of the structures standing today date from the second half of the 19th century.
The monastery houses sacred relics associated with Saint David and displays old icons and handcrafted religious objects throughout its rooms. Visitors can see these treasures and learn how they hold meaning for the local community.
The monastery is set on hilly ground near Drimona and is reached by a marked path. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes for the uneven terrain and bring appropriate clothing, as it is an active religious site.
A natural cave to the south of the main complex is traditionally linked to Saint David, who is said to have lived there as a hermit. It can be reached on foot in about 20 minutes and remains a place of pilgrimage for those visiting the site.
