Archaeological Museum of Samothrace, History museum in Palaiopoli, Samothrace, Greece
The Archaeological Museum of Samothrace is located in Palaiopoli and features four exhibition rooms and an atrium displaying architectural remains, sculptures, and objects from the ancient sanctuary. The spaces are arranged to show the development of the site across several centuries.
The museum was constructed between 1939 and 1955 by the American School of Classical Studies in Athens, with an additional wing added in 1960. This expansion allowed more artifacts from the nearby archaeological site to be displayed.
The collection displays restored architectural pieces, ritual objects, and inscriptions that reflect the daily religious practices of ancient Greeks at this sanctuary. These items help visitors understand how people worshipped and honored their gods in this place.
The museum is situated near the Sanctuary of the Great Gods, which can also be visited. A combined ticket provides access to both locations at a reduced rate.
At the museum entrance stands a marble replica of the Nike of Samothrace, created in 2021 using techniques shared by the Louvre. This copy allows visitors to see the renowned statue at full size without traveling to France.
