Aghios Prokopios beach, Beach in Naxos, Greece
Aghios Prokopios beach is a long stretch of sand on the west coast of Naxos, a few kilometers from the main town. It has clear water that shifts from turquoise near the shore to deep blue further out, and the sand is coarse and golden.
The beach and the settlement around it take their name from the small church of Agios Prokopios, which has stood at the edge of the sand for generations. Over time, the area grew from a quiet spot into a popular summer destination, especially after it received the Blue Flag award.
At the northern end of the beach stands a small white church dedicated to Saint Prokopios, which gives the area its name. It is a simple structure that sits right by the sand, and many visitors stop to look at it or take photos.
The beach is easy to reach from Naxos town, with frequent local buses running to the area. You can choose between the organized section with sunbeds and the quieter end near the small church, depending on what you prefer.
The sand here is made of tiny shell and rock fragments that give it a coarse texture and a warm golden color. Unlike fine sand, it does not stick to your skin, so you can leave the beach without feeling covered in grit.
