Musée des Confluences, Science museum at the Rhône-Saône confluence, Lyon, France
The Musée des Confluences is a science museum in Lyon at the meeting point of the Rhône and Saône rivers. The modern structure of metal and glass was designed by architectural firm Coop Himmelb(l)au and reaches a height of 44 meters (144 feet).
The museum opened in December 2014 after several years of construction. It received the Musée de France designation from the French Ministry of Culture in 2003.
The permanent exhibitions are organized into four thematic areas that connect natural sciences with human development. Visitors move through rooms where objects from geology, biology and anthropology are presented side by side.
The museum is easily reached by public transport and welcomes visitors from Tuesday to Sunday between 10:30 AM and 6:30 PM. On the first Thursday of each month the exhibition halls stay open later.
The location marks exactly where the Rhône and Saône rivers merge. This geographic position reflects the concept of bringing together different streams of knowledge.
