Champigny-sur-Marne, Residential suburb in Val-de-Marne, France
Champigny-sur-Marne is a residential commune in Val-de-Marne that spreads along the eastern bank of the Marne River. The town covers several neighborhoods with parks, schools, and shopping areas linked by local roads and public transport.
The settlement began as a Gallo-Roman estate and grew into a medieval village with a church built in the 12th century. The name officially added sur-Marne in 1897 to distinguish it from other places called Champigny.
The town maintains a 12th-century church, multiple educational institutions including six colleges and seven high schools, while fostering connections through partnerships with cities in Portugal and Germany.
The town connects to Paris through two railway stations that give access to RER lines used for daily travel into the city center. Local buses run through the residential areas and help with moving between different parts of the town.
Alongside the residential neighborhoods, smaller businesses operate here that focus on food processing and optical equipment manufacturing. These industries have settled in the town over decades and continue to shape local economic life.
