Locronan, Medieval village in Finistère, France

Locronan is a village in Brittany with Renaissance-era stone houses lining cobblestone streets that recall its days as a prosperous trading center. The buildings give the place a medieval character that has remained largely unchanged over the centuries.

The village began in the 10th century when Irish missionary Saint Ronan founded a hermitage that gradually grew into a community. The settlement took his name and built its identity around this spiritual foundation.

The Troménie pilgrimage draws people from across the region every six years to walk around the village in a religious procession rooted in local faith. This tradition shapes how residents connect to their land and their spiritual heritage.

The village is located between Quimper and Douarnenez and can be reached by car or public transport without difficulty. You will find hotels, guesthouses, and restaurants on site, along with regular markets nearby.

The village has served as a filming location for well-known movies, including Roman Polanski's Tess and Jean-Pierre Jeunet's A Very Long Engagement. This connection to cinema has brought international attention and drawn visitors keen to explore the film settings.
