Manosque, Administrative commune in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, France
Manosque is a commune in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department that stretches along the eastern side of the Durance River. The administrative area includes three cantons that cover different parts of the town and each operate their own municipal facilities.
During the 13th century, a fortification system emerged that enabled the town to enjoy a period of commercial growth. Today, only a few gates remain as reminders of this medieval protective architecture.
The eastern quarter clusters around narrow lanes with facades of light stone, while the western part shows newer residential areas. Locals use the markets in the center during the morning and meet later under the plane trees along the avenues.
The three administrative sections offer residents contact points for municipal matters in different parts of the town. Visitors exploring the old town find most services and shops concentrated in the northern and eastern areas.
The international cosmetics manufacturer L'Occitane operates its main production site and global headquarters here. This establishment brought the town wider recognition and new economic momentum.
