This artificial pond covers approximately 250 acres (100 hectares) and serves as the largest body of water in the Luberon Massif, located between Cabrières-d'Aigues and La Motte-d'Aigues about 25 miles (40 kilometers) from Aix-en-Provence.
The pond was originally built as part of the Canal de Provence irrigation system to supply water for agricultural purposes throughout the region and continues to support local farming while now serving recreational uses as well.
