Château de Fallavier, Medieval castle ruins in Saint Quentin-Fallavier, France.
Château de Fallavier is a ruined fortress with a prominent round keep that rises about 25 meters high on Relong hill. The site shows remains of various defensive structures and walls spread across the slopes.
The fortress was originally founded by the counts of Savoy and underwent major reconstruction around 1280 under master mason Tassin from Saint-Georges. These improvements made it a more powerful defensive stronghold for the centuries ahead.
The grounds host medieval reenactments and rotating exhibitions organized by local heritage groups. These events help visitors understand how people lived during the medieval period.
The grounds are open free of charge from March through October on Sundays and public holidays from 2:30 to 6:30 pm. Wear comfortable walking shoes since the paths to the ruins are steep and uneven in places.
A narrow staircase carved directly into the keep's stone walls spirals upward to the top. From this vantage point, visitors can see why the fortress once controlled such a large territory around it.
