Aulon

Aulon is a small commune in the French Pyrenees that sits across mountainous terrain with elevations ranging from 1,061 to 2,843 meters. The landscape around it consists of meadows, forests, and steep hillsides that change with each season.

The commune reached its peak in the early 19th century when around 300 people lived here. Since then, residents have gradually moved away to find work and opportunities elsewhere.

The Saint-Félix-de-Valois Church anchors the center of the commune and reflects the deep religious traditions of this mountain community. It remains a gathering place for locals during important occasions and shows how faith has shaped daily life here.

The village is best explored on foot since most buildings and the church are clustered near each other. In winter months, roads can become snow-covered, so it is important to check weather conditions and come equipped accordingly.

The village served as the filming location for the 2015 French film 'Un village presque parfait' and portrayed the fictional community of Saint-Loin-la-Mauderne. Film enthusiasts can still walk the same streets and see the buildings that appeared on screen.
