Aussois

Aussois is a mountain village situated at roughly 1500 meters in the Vanoise massif near Modane. The settlement spreads across alpine terrain and features several dozen ski runs suitable for both beginners and experienced skiers.

The settlement was once a remote mountain community before winter tourism transformed it in the 20th century. This shift brought infrastructure and seasonal visitors that reshaped the village's purpose and character.

The village retains a deep connection to mountain life, reflected in the wooden chalets that line the streets and the way locals embrace the changing seasons. Visitors can see this identity woven through everyday details and community gatherings.

The village has substantial lodging options and offers terrain for skiers of all abilities with runs spread throughout the area. Getting around between different slopes is straightforward, allowing visitors to easily switch between beginner and advanced sections.

The village sits near the boundary of Vanoise National Park, giving visitors direct access to alpine wilderness beyond the ski slopes. This location made it an unexpected gateway for mountain exploration.
