Villecroze

Villecroze is a small commune in the Var region featuring a charming village center where painted buildings surround a spacious square. Seven stone fountains are scattered throughout its narrow cobblestone streets, creating focal points within the historic settlement.

The settlement developed around troglodytic caves that were inhabited by Benedictine monks during medieval times. These underground dwellings played a crucial role in establishing and shaping the village over subsequent centuries.

The Chapel of Saint Victor, constructed in the 12th century, serves as a concert venue for the International Music Academy during summer months.

Visitors should arrive early on Thursday mornings to experience the weekly market on the main square with local products. The narrow streets are best explored on foot since vehicle access to the village center is limited.

A public park in the village center incorporates ancient cliff dwellings directly into its landscape design. This integration allows visitors to walk among restored troglodytic structures while enjoying green spaces and local flora.
