Rochefort-Martrou Transporter Bridge, Transporter bridge in Rochefort, France

The metal bridge stretches 175.5 meters across the Charente River, featuring a suspended gondola that carries passengers between Rochefort and Échillais.

Ferdinand Arnodin designed and constructed this engineering structure between 1898 and 1900, implementing innovative solutions for maritime traffic passage.

The Maison du Transbordeur interpretation center presents exhibitions about the bridge's engineering and social impact on the local community.

Visitors can cross the Charente River from March to November, with different ticket options available for single trips or seasonal passes.

This structure remains the last operating transporter bridge in France, preserving its original mechanical system with electrical modifications from 1927.
