Notre-Dame de la Garde, Catholic basilica at La Garde hill, Marseille, France

The Romano-Byzantine basilica features a 41-meter bell tower topped with an 11-meter copper statue of Virgin Mary overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

The first chapel on this site was built in 1214 by priest Pierre, and the current basilica was completed in 1864 under architect Henri-Jacques Espérandieu.

The basilica houses numerous ex-votos from sailors and fishermen, displaying centuries of maritime traditions and religious devotion in Mediterranean France.

Visitors can reach the basilica by taking bus 60 from the Old Port, walking up the steep hill, or utilizing the paid parking facilities.
