Château de Montfaucon

The castle complex stretches across a 300-meter rocky ridge, featuring three successive defensive walls and a hexagonal central tower.

Built in the 11th century by Conon de Montfaucon, the castle transformed from a wooden fort into a stone fortress by the late 13th century.

The site represents a key example of medieval fortification architecture in Franche-Comté, with remains of both military and religious structures.

The castle ruins, acquired by Montfaucon municipality in 1984, underwent restoration work and now welcome visitors for historical exploration.

The fortress maintained its strategic position through the 1477 passage of King Louis XI's army while other regional castles fell during the conflicts.
