Château Ferrière, Wine estate in Margaux, France
Château Ferrière is a wine estate in Margaux with a 12-hectare vineyard planted on deep gravel with limestone substrate. The vines consist of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, with about 10,000 plants per hectare.
A royal hunt manager named Gabriel Ferrière established the estate in the 18th century. The property received third growth classification in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification.
Wine here is made using traditional Bordeaux methods, with fermentation in concrete and wooden vats, followed by 18 months of aging in oak barrels. The production practices are timeless and reflect traditions that have been maintained across generations at this estate.
The estate is open to visitors from Monday to Friday with guided tours and tastings available at different times during the day. It is advisable to arrange your visit in advance.
Despite its third growth classification, this is the smallest estate among all classified growths in the Medoc region. This limited size makes it a special place with its own character among the larger Bordeaux wines.
