Château Kirwan

Château Kirwan is a winery in Margaux-Cantenac with about 38 hectares (94 acres) of vineyards growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The vines thrive in limestone-rich soils that shape the character of the wines produced here.

The estate formed in the late 1700s when Mark Kirwan, an Irish merchant, purchased and combined two separate vineyards. This merger laid the foundation for what became a respected wine producer in the Bordeaux region.

The name comes from Mark Kirwan, an Irish merchant whose family left a lasting mark on this estate's identity. Visitors today experience how this foreign heritage blends into the local Bordeaux wine culture.

Visitors can arrange wine tastings, vineyard tours, and workshops by visiting the estate's website or calling the office ahead of time. It is best to plan your visit in advance since spaces may be limited.

In 2023, the estate launched its first white wine production called Margalais, made entirely from Chardonnay grapes grown on the property. This addition to the classic red wines marks a new direction for this historic producer.
