L'Espérance Airport

L'Espérance Airport is a commercial airport in Grand Case on French Saint Martin with a runway of approximately 1,200 meters (3,900 feet). The facility includes a terminal building, fire station, and control tower situated at an elevation of 7 meters (23 feet) above sea level.

The airport began operations in 1950, establishing important air connections between Saint Martin and neighboring Caribbean islands. This early infrastructure laid the foundation for the island's commercial flight network.

The airport connects travelers directly to Grand Case, a neighborhood known for its food scene and local shops. This location links air traffic to the dining and commercial life of French Saint Martin's main towns.

The airport is located about 15 minutes from Marigot and 30 minutes from Philipsburg, making it accessible from both parts of the island. Visitors will find parking for about 165 vehicles with direct access to car rental services on site.

Since 2007, the airport has operated under a joint border control agreement with Dutch authorities that allows specific flight monitoring between the French and Dutch sides of the island. This arrangement makes it a special hub for coordinated air traffic management across the divided territory.
