Fort de Seclin, Military fort and museum in Seclin, France
Fort de Seclin is a military fortification with a trapezoidal layout and central artillery position in northern France. The complex includes barracks, support buildings, and a defensive ditch, now arranged to display weapons and military equipment from different periods.
The fort was built between 1873 and 1875 as part of a defensive network protecting the region. During World War I, German forces occupied it and used it as a supply depot.
The fort houses military artifacts and personal items showing how soldiers lived and worked here over time. Visitors can see the daily conditions of garrison life through preserved rooms and equipment on display.
The site opens on weekends and offers guided tours through the fortification system. Wear sturdy footwear since the terrain is uneven and routes cross grassy areas and older structures.
The site includes a memorial to General Deffontaines, one of the youngest French generals who died during the war. His story remains part of the place's remembrance today.
