Kerbel lighthouse, Maritime lighthouse in Riantec, France.

Kerbel lighthouse is a 25-meter tall structure rising on the coast near Lorient that once guided ships through local waters. Today the tower's upper section contains a studio apartment that offers visitors panoramic views across the surrounding ocean.

The structure was built in 1913 and served as a navigation aid for over 75 years before being decommissioned in 1989. This long period of active use shaped the region's maritime history.

The lighthouse carries the story of Honorine Le Guen, who worked here as France's first female lighthouse keeper and shaped daily life in this isolated role. Her legacy makes this place a symbol of pioneering women in maritime work.

Visitors should keep in mind that the tower sits on a rocky outcrop and can feel exposed during windy conditions. The path up is narrow and requires careful footing, especially in wet weather.

The grounds surrounding the lighthouse include a large garden with modern amenities available to guests. This transformation shows how this historic site has been adapted into a contemporary retreat space.
