Jardin des Plantes d'Angers, Botanical garden in Angers, France

The Jardin des Plantes d'Angers is a botanical garden featuring pathways, water features, statues, and numerous plant species arranged in a landscape-style layout. The space includes different planted areas with mature trees, ponds, and open green spaces that encourage walking and observation.

The garden was established in 1740 as the first botanical garden in Angers. A complete redesign between 1904 and 1905 transformed it according to English garden principles.

The garden was designed following English landscape principles and serves today as a place where visitors discover nature by walking under mature trees and along water features. It functions as a public green space where locals and travelers pause to observe the plant life in a relaxed setting.

The garden is open daily and it is best to allow time for a leisurely walk to properly view the different tree species and plant collections. Comfortable walking shoes are advisable as the pathways wind through varied terrain and around water features.

The garden houses a small animal area with chickens, rabbits, goats, and swans living among the planted spaces. Red squirrels frequently appear in the old trees and add to the natural character of the place.
