Jardin du mail

The Jardin du Mail is a neoclassical garden located in central Angers, featuring symmetrical pathways that guide visitors through its layout. A central fountain anchors the design, with green corridors and seasonal flower beds arranged throughout the space.

This garden began in the 17th century as a playing field for 'jeu du mail', a French lawn game where players pushed balls with mallets across the grass. The space was later transformed into a formal garden that has retained its neoclassical design to the present day.

The garden displays cast iron replicas of classical statues arranged throughout the space, with a music pavilion adding to the classical atmosphere. In summer, geometric flower beds transform the grounds into a carefully planned exhibition of living color and order.

The garden is located in front of Angers City Hall on Boulevard de la Résistance et de la Déportation and offers free entry for all visitors. The open layout makes it easy to walk through at your own pace, and you are welcome to bring pets along with you.

A fountain created by Barbezat marks the center point where all geometric pathways converge and meet. This design element establishes the distinctive spatial organization that defines how visitors move through the garden.
