Porcheville thermal power station, Oil-fired power station in Porcheville, France
Porcheville thermal power station was an electricity generating facility positioned along the Seine River, approximately 50 kilometers northwest of Paris. The plant contained four production units with a combined capacity of 2,400 megawatts.
The site began operating as a coal-fired facility in 1954 and was converted to oil-fired units between 1968 and 1975 to meet growing electricity demand. The plant closed permanently in 2017, several years earlier than originally planned.
The industrial structure served as a filming location for French cinema productions, including the 1962 film 'Le Doulos' directed by Jean-Pierre Melville.
The site is no longer accessible today since the facility was completely decommissioned and remains closed to visitors. The location along the Seine offers distant views of the distinctive industrial structures from public areas.
Two chimneys standing 220 meters tall dominated the landscape and were specifically designed to release emissions above an adjacent cliff face. These towering structures served as navigation landmarks for the surrounding region.
