Château-Gaillard

Château-Gaillard is a medieval fortress on a hilltop overlooking the Loire Valley, with thick stone walls and towers. The structure unfolds across multiple levels showing how defenders organized their positions, with remains of towers, ditches, and reinforced sections still visible today.

The fortress was built in the late 12th century and became central to conflicts between Normandy and France. It was besieged multiple times until finally conquered, after which its military importance faded.
