Château Aubéry

Château Aubéry is a crumbling ruin built in Art Deco style in Ducos, Martinique. The concrete structure features geometric patterns, large windows, and decorative elements typical of 1930s architecture.

Architect Germain Olivier designed this residence between 1928 and 1930 for Eugene Aubery, one of Martinique's wealthiest industrialists. After its years as a private home, the building served as a teacher training school from 1956 to the early 1960s.

The castle's name reflects its connection to Martinique's wealthy industrial families of the early 20th century. The remaining architectural details still reveal the kind of decoration that prosperous owners would have displayed to show their status.

Visiting requires coordination with local authorities due to the building's deteriorated condition. Wear sturdy footwear and stay alert to unstable ground and structural hazards when exploring the site.

The mosaic at the entrance displays the initials AE, marking the original owner's personal stamp on this decaying structure. This small detail transforms the ruin into a monument to a family whose wealth has long since faded.
