Construction of the castle began in the 14th century upon the foundations of an 11th-century fortress, receiving historical monument status in 1913.
The castle inspired Charles Perrault to create the character of Marquis de Carabas in his tale Puss in Boots during the 17th century.
The castle provides five guest rooms within its ancient walls, allowing visitors to experience an overnight stay in an authentic medieval tower.
Stone from the Crazannes quarries traveled across Europe via the Charente River and became part of many structures, including Cologne Cathedral.
