Chapelle du Saint-Suaire, Neoclassical chapel in Old Town, Nice, France

Chapelle du Saint-Suaire is a neoclassical chapel in Old Town Nice with a rectangular nave and semi-circular facade topped with a trinity triangle. The bell tower features glazed tiles, and inside you'll find a reproduction of the Turin Shroud alongside other religious pieces.

The chapel was granted to a brotherhood in 1824 by King Charles-Felix, formed from the merger of three confraternities that had existed since the early 17th century. This consolidation allowed an established religious tradition to concentrate in one location within the old quarter.

The Red Penitents Brotherhood gathers here for prayer and religious ceremonies, maintaining the chapel as a working place of worship. You can see religious artworks that reflect the spiritual life of this community.

The chapel keeps limited visiting hours and isn't always open to the public, so check with the Nice tourist office before planning a visit. It sits in the old quarter, so you can reach it on foot, though the surrounding streets are narrow.

Inside is a carved wooden sculpture depicting Saint Hospice's miracle, showing a hermit's encounter with a Lombard soldier. This remarkable artwork is one of the chapel's lesser-known pieces and captures the attention of those who discover it.
