Terrasse du château, Viewpoint at Castle Hill, Nice, France.
Terrasse du Château is a viewing platform on Castle Hill offering open views of Nice's harbor, old town, and the Mediterranean coastline. The site spreads across different levels with paved areas where visitors can see the entire bay from multiple vantage points.
A medieval fortress once occupied this hill and controlled the city until 1706 when King Louis XIV ordered it torn down during a military siege. The hilltop then became a public space for residents to gather.
The terrace draws artists and photographers who gather to capture Nice's landscape in their work. You will notice people sketching or painting while others pause to take in the view at different times of day.
You can reach the terrace by stairs from Rue des Ponchettes, by elevator near Place Garibaldi, or by walking paved paths through Castle Hill Park. The site is accessible throughout the day from different parts of the city, making it easy to visit at any time.
An artificial waterfall flows down the hillside creating a water display that is visible from the Promenade des Anglais below. Many visitors overlook this feature, but it adds a distinctive element to the viewpoint.
