Château de Dissay

Château de Dissay is a fortified castle in Dissay featuring multiple towers, moats, and walls with architectural elements spanning from the 15th to 20th centuries. The grounds also include a Michelin-rated restaurant called Ô Dissay, which serves modern French cuisine within the historical setting.

Pierre d'Amboise, Bishop of Poitiers, began construction of this fortress in the 15th century, and it then served as an episcopal residence until 1793. The structure evolved over centuries, documenting long phases of French building history.

The castle displays various French architectural styles through its rooms and facades, from medieval defensive features to Renaissance decorations. Visitors can observe these transitions while walking through the courtyards and along the outer walls.

Visitors can explore the castle grounds and access the restaurant Ô Dissay within the property, which offers modern French dishes. The grounds are well-walkable, with paths allowing a circuit through both historical rooms and outdoor areas.

Bullet marks from Admiral de Coligny's 1569 attack during the religious wars remain visible on the north side of the castle. These scars tell the story of the conflicts that shaped this region for many years.
