Castel of Assas

The Castel of Assas is an 18th-century castle in Assas featuring two corner pavilions with raised secondary floors. A central vestibule opens toward two small gardens that surround the structure.

This structure was built between 1759 and 1760 to replace an earlier feudal building that had stood on the site. The new construction reflected emerging architectural ideas of its time.

The main reception room displays large paintings celebrating arts and sciences on its walls. The room also houses a baroque organ and an 18th-century harpsichord that was once played by professional musicians.

This property holds protected status as a classified historical monument with regulations covering the main building and its connected galleries. Visitors should be aware of the access restrictions that apply to preserve the structure.

The west-facing facade incorporates decorative elements salvaged from a different demolished castle that once stood nearby. An impressive entrance arch showcases how materials from an earlier building were repurposed into the new design.
