Longpra Castle

Longpra Castle is a castle in Saint-Geoire-en-Valdaine with medieval origins that underwent major reconstruction in 1770. Its facades display symmetrical 18th-century design, and a moat encircles the entire property.

The site began as a fortified house in the 12th century and evolved into a castle over time. In the 18th century, a complete redesign under Pierre-Antoine de Longpra created the structure you see today.

The castle houses a collection of woodworking tools that shows how craftspeople worked in past centuries. You can see the instruments carpenters and joiners used and understand the techniques they relied on.

The castle is accessible to visitors through guided tours that introduce you to the property and its history. During your visit, you can watch a film about traditional woodworking techniques.

The Franclieu family has owned the castle since 1536 and maintained it across four centuries. This long continuity makes the property remarkable for its family-driven preservation with deep historical roots.
