Château du Puy, Heritage site in Tercillat, France
Château du Puy is a manor in Tercillat that combines 18th-century stone structures with coach gates and elements from an earlier feudal settlement. The estate spreads across about 12 hectares and includes the main building, an indoor theater, and various outbuildings and grounds.
The site was first documented in Latin records from 1237 and passed through several noble families, including the de Brosse, before Jehan le Groing acquired it. This succession of owners shaped its evolution from a medieval stronghold to the manor that exists today.
The castle hosts a costume collection and uses it to stage theatrical performances based on Charles Perrault and Jean de La Fontaine stories. Visitors can experience these shows and see how the space serves as a venue for living theater rather than a static museum.
Visits require advance booking and are mainly available during the summer season when the grounds open for tours. The air-conditioned indoor theater provides a comfortable space for attending performances regardless of outdoor weather.
The property preserves medieval architectural fragments such as templar heads, original staircases, and ancient chimney structures scattered throughout the grounds. A restored medieval farm courtyard with a deer enclosure shows how daily life worked in earlier times.
