Château du Théret

Château du Théret is a castle in La Saunière featuring two round towers, one square tower with an internal spiral staircase, and a two-story main building with defensive stonework and a walkway on top. The overall layout shows how different sections were built and modified at separate times.

Construction of this castle began in 1380 as a medieval structure, then underwent major changes during 1645 when new wings and additional towers were added. These later modifications significantly altered the appearance of the original design.

The building displays a mix of heavy medieval walls alongside later decorative elements that reflect different periods of construction and style. These contrasts are visible in how the towers and structures were added over time.

The property remains a private residence with no public access to the interior, so visitors can only view the exterior from the surrounding area. It sits in central France and is best seen when traveling by car through the local region.

A 16th-century fountain sitting in the courtyard was officially protected as a historical monument in 1931, before the castle's main structures received protection. The facade and roof protections followed three decades later in 1965.
