Châteaux de Saint-Hilaire et des Plas

The Châteaux de Saint-Hilaire et des Plas is a castle complex containing two fortresses within a single enclosure in Curemonte. Saint-Hilaire features three towers while Plas displays two square towers, with each structure showing architectural elements from different periods.

Saint-Hilaire emerged in the 13th century as a defensive fortress at the site's core. Jean de Plas later constructed the adjacent fortification between 1543 and 1547, expanding the complex with new architectural approaches.

The entrance to Château de Plas displays a family coat of arms framed by decorative pilasters in the Renaissance style. These carved details show how the residents expressed their status and refined taste through the stone work.

The complex can be explored on foot within the walled enclosure, with the towers offering different vantage points to view the structures. The grounds are accessible by footpath, but visitors should expect uneven terrain and some narrow passages.

East of the wall stands a large 17th-century storage building with distinctive basket-arch openings. This structure is flanked by small towers at each end and represents a building style that differs from the residential structures in the complex.
