Château des Roure, Medieval fortress in Labastide-de-Virac, France.
The Château des Roure features tall stone towers, defensive walls, and a central courtyard situated on a strategic hilltop location in southern Ardèche.
Built in the 14th century on earlier foundations from the 11th century, this castle changed ownership multiple times and served as a stronghold during religious conflicts.
The castle maintains silk farming traditions through its silk workshop, where visitors can observe the complete lifecycle of silkworms from eggs to cocoons.
The castle opens daily from April to November, offering guided tours in French that include demonstrations of medieval warfare techniques and silk production methods.
The castle grounds house a 21-meter trebuchet, which launches candy into the air during special demonstrations for children.
